I’ve been to all 50 states. If I had just one day in Florida, here’s how I’d spend it.

I’ve traveled to all 50 states and have spent a good amount of time in Florida.
If I only had one day to spend in the state, however, there are a few things I wouldn’t miss out on.
I’d spend time on the beach, explore Everglades National Park, and drive the Overseas Highway.

After visiting all 50 states, I’ve found beauty in each of them.

But after more than a dozen visits, Florida really stands out to me — thanks to its beautiful beaches, turquoise waters, and unique cultural influences.

The state, which is also home to three major national parks, is a great place to spend a vacation, a weekend, or even just a long day.

Here’s how I’d spend a summer day in Florida.

First, I’d watch the sunrise on a beach in or near Miami.

In my opinion, there’s nothing quite like an East Coast beach at sunrise. So, to start my day, I’d head to one in or near Miami to catch a vibrant display of pink and orange hues.

Plus, it’s a great time to enjoy the beach while the temperatures are lower and there aren’t as many people around.

Next, I’d drive to the Homestead Entrance at Everglades National Park.

I love spending time outdoors, so after catching the sunrise and grabbing coffee, I’d drive a little over an hour from Miami to the Homestead entrance station at Everglades National Park.

I’d spend a few hours hiking the short Anhinga Trail to spot alligators and other wildlife, and stop at the Pa-hay-okee Overlook for beautiful Everglades views.

After enjoying the park, I’d stop for a treat at the Robert Is Here fruit stand.

After visiting Everglades National Park, I’d drive back east about 8 miles to the historic Robert Is Here fruit stand.

The family-owned and operated stand has been selling exotic fruits and vegetables since 1959, and has now become a tourist attraction with an animal farm, picnic areas, play areas, and milkshakes.

Whenever I’m in the area, I love stopping by for a fruit smoothie and to browse the stand’s offerings.

From there, I’d drive the Overseas Highway, stopping for lunch along the way.

From there, I’d drive toward the historic Overseas Highway (US Route 1) and follow it all the way to Key West.

In my opinion, this 113-mile road is one of the most — if not the most — beautiful and scenic in the US, with 42 bridges (including the iconic Seven Mile Bridge) spanning the route.

Along the drive, I’d stop at the Hungry Tarpon at Robbie’s Marina in Islamorada for a late seafood lunch with gorgeous views.

After lunch, I’d drive to Key West and explore the downtown area.

At the end of the Overseas Highway sits one of the most unique places I’ve been to — Key West. There’s no shortage of great food, drink, and spectacle throughout the quirky city.

I love walking Duval Street, which is home to historic bars and restaurants, unique boutiques, and great nightlife.

Whenever I have time, I also enjoy visiting the Hemingway Home and Museum — Ernest Hemingway’s former residence in Key West — and the Truman Little White House, which served as the “winter White House” for President Harry S. Truman.

I’d end the day watching the sunset in Key West.

After a long day, I like to watch the sunset from Key West at the famous nightly Mallory Square Sunset Celebration. Here, street vendors, artists, and musicians come together to celebrate the sunset with visitors.

Or, for a more elevated experience, I’d hop on a sunset cruise around Key West with music, food, drinks, and a great view.
