Not long ago, luxury vehicles really set themselves apart from mainstream brands, not only with more powerful engines, smoother rides, and nicer materials, but also with high-end finishes and high-tech features. Mercedes-Benz was the first to offer adaptive cruise control, for example. These days, most of that edge has evaporated. Sure, some luxury vehicles still offer more power, more sophisticated platforms, and maybe a feature or two, but by and large, they don’t have much of a leg up on mainstream brands.
