Koenigsegg’s One-Gear Hypercar May Be Getting A Manual Transmission

A Manual Hypercar Coming Soon?

The prospect of a manual hypercar sounds exciting, but the reality is, it’s one of the most unlikely things to happen these days. In the quest for even more rapid acceleration times, modern-day self-shifters can get the job done far quicker than three pedals and a stick shift.

That said, there is a report that claims Koenigsegg will soon unveil a very special Regera, one equipped with a manual transmission. Should be a pretty wild ride, then.

Strictly a One-Off

The three-pedal Regera will reportedly debut next week at the Aurora Concours event. As always, it’ll be held in Båstad, Sweden, and the event grounds will surely be littered by some of the most expensive and rarest cars in the world. After all, it has ‘Concours’ in its name, so that’s pretty much expected.

According to The Supercar Blog, there will be a “surprise hypercar reveal” on June 26. Okay, it’s not really a surprise anymore at this point, but it’s still something to look forward too and the kind of car we’d like to see to believe. Also, it will strictly be a one-off, and the owner might not be much of a surprise for some people.

And the Owner Is…

It’s none other that FIA President Mohammad Ben Sulayem. He’s a controversial figure, yes, but one can’t deny that the man (probably) has a net worth larger than some countries and territories. Ben Sulayem had a successful rallying career, winning the Middle East Rally Championship 14 times, but he reportedly made his wealth through Dubai’s real estate boom. Of course, it also helps that he was born into generational wealth.

Ben Sulayem is also an avid car collector, which probably shouldn’t come as a surprise anymore. In fact, he already has a one-off Koenigsegg model. The Chimera was made for the FIA president, and that car pairs the Jesko’s engine to the CC850’s transmission, all enclosed in the Agera RS’ chassis.

The Car

With that, the three-pedal Regera will possibly have its own name. Interestingly, the car won’t simply be a manual-swapped version of the already exclusive hypercar. A lot of changes were made to make it happen.

The Regera uses a direct drive transmission. That’s mainly due to the plug-in hybrid system that the car has. It has three electric motors that work in conjunction with a 5.0-liter twin-turbo V8. Per The Supercar Blog, the hybrid bits were removed as manual transmissions and full electrification don’t mix. To make up the difference for the loss of the electric motors, the V8 has been tuned to about 1,600 hp.

With that, Ben Sulayem will soon add another one-off Koenigsegg to his vast collection. We’ll have more info about it once it makes its debut next week, and it’ll probably be one of the few times it’ll be out in public.
