British supercar maker McLaren has submitted a patent that would lock a “race driving mode” behind GPS location rules. Typically, a race mode on a car is intended for track driving, rather than a sport mode which is intended for road use. Using the GPS and data connection on a car to only open a track mode when it’s at a track location makes sense, particularly when you consider, as McLaren has, that “the race configuration of the suspension system may cause the vehicle to not meet one or more safety standards in order to be certified for use on public roads.”
