Attention-Grabbing, For Better or Worse
There have been a lot of comments so far about the newly redesigned Mercedes-AMG GT four-door. One is about its shift to a pure-EV powertrain, but one can say that its styling has been the car’s overwhelming talking point. To say it’s polarizing is an understatement, but the new electric GT has generated loads of buzz on looks alone.
So far, the comments about its styling have ranged from ‘bold and daring’ to ‘who on earth approved this?’ So, for those in the latter camp, can its looks at least be salvageable?

Cleaning it Up
For those familiar (or unfamiliar) with The Sketch Monkey, he’s long been tidying up cars with either controversial designs or those that need a little more fixing. Given the reactions surrounding the AMG GT four-door, it was inevitable that it had attracted his attention.
In this case, he didn’t go all out and redesign the entire front end. Instead, he did his best to clean up some of the seemingly fussy lines to achieve a smoother, more cohesive look. Think of this then as a peg for an emergency facelift should the need arise. If you want to see the (sped up) process, you can check out the reel by clicking on these yellow words.

And the Result is…
Credit where it’s due, there is an improvement in our eyes. But since the hard points weren’t changed, some parts still look a little iffy. The front bumper still protrudes a fair bit, but it looks less like an anglerfish following its digital facelift. The slimmer headlights, sans the three-pointed daytime running lights, also did their part to make it a fair bit neater. We’re curious how The Sketch Monkey would change the look of the rear, though.
The new AMG GT four-door is, in itself, a massive gamble. High-performance EVs aren’t a huge market, so it seems that Mercedes waits to make its arrival in that niche as big and as loud as possible. Like it or not, the fact that we’re talking about it means the car is making an impression.

Big Numbers
The car’s look has probably been its biggest talking point, but it’s worth discussing its specs. The 2027 AMG GT four-door rides on an 800V architecture that introduces the company’s latest high-performance EV platform. With that in mind, there’s a strong chance more fast EVs will use this platform.
Power is rated at up to 1,153 horsepower and 1,475 lb-ft of torque, and AMG reckons it can hit 60 mph in as little as 2.0 seconds, and blow past 120 mph in under 6.5 seconds. Top speed is ‘limited’ to 186 mph, which is still impressive given its powertrain. To achieve those figures, the AMG GT uses a highly advanced all-wheel-drive system, along with other clever electronics to keep traction levels high. Given those stats, it should gives Porsche‘s Taycan a mighty good scare.
Prices are unknown at the moment, but given that the outgoing model is over $150,000, we expect the new battery-powered model to start well past that. AMG is also floating the possibility of an even more powerful version with close to 1,300 hp. For those looking for V8 power, the new GT four-door won’t get it as it rides on a dedicated EV platform, but AMG says it will bring in new eight-cylinder models soon.
