It’s nearly time for the rarest Mercedes-AMG CLE variant of them all to be revealed; new spy shots captured near the Nürburgring show that the CLE 63 Mythos is nearing the end of development, with production-ready bodywork showing stacked tailpipes, a widened track, and plenty of other performance-minded upgrades. Just 30 examples will be produced, and recent reports indicate that the twin-turbocharged flat-plane crank V8 will produce a meaty 646 horsepower, expected to be the peak for the new eight-cylinder engine, with less powerful iterations of the V8 also coming in ‘regular’ AMG models.
AMG CLE 63 Mythos Will Look Wilder Than Any Other Merc
SH Proshots/Autoblog
A close-up of the front end reveals some unsightly rivets around the large Panamericana grille, so there’s still some cleaning up to be done before the reveal, but the essence of this car is clear to see, and it’s hardcore. The bodywork has expanded with wider, vented fenders to allow a wide track, and it appears that this Mythos CLE will share very little with a regular CLE. The headlights may be the same, but the entire front fascia is far more aggressive, and we expect model-specific wheels to fill the arches. At the rear, these arches are particularly swollen, with the meatier rubber necessary to help put down the power.

From the rear three-quarter view, we see large vents that follow the shape of the lower rear fascia, which includes an aggressive diffuser with upright reflectors in the middle. On each end of the two-piece diffuser, AMG is sticking with traditional squared exhaust finishers, but they’re stacked on this special edition – remember the Lexus IS F? There’s also an enormous rear wing that appears to be manually adjustable. Clearly, getting the best out of this car will require a track.
Mercedes-AMG CLE 63 Mythos Already Sold Out
SH Proshots/Autoblog
Unfortunately, those interested in the most extreme CLE yet, but are only learning about it now, are already too late, as all 30 examples are already sold out, as was the case with the first Mythos product, the PureSpeed roadster. The Mythos series is aimed only at Mercedes’ most loyal customers, and they’re offered the chance to own one of these products long before they’re seen in public. Expect more highly exclusive machines under this label in the future, but as rare vehicles, they won’t come around very often. As for this CLE, we expect a debut in the second half of this year, so anytime from July. We’ll update you as more information becomes available.
