While August 20th is widely celebrated as National Lemonade Day, we can thank the French for the historical debut. Imagine walking the streets of Paris sometime around 1630 and discovering this refreshing new beverage called lemonade. It was the street vendors who first started selling a mix of water, lemon juice and honey from tanks on their backs. These sellers became so popular that they formed a union – the Compagnie de Limonadiers – in 1676.
Fast forward to today when the official youth entrepreneurship movement observes a floating date on the first Sunday in May. Whatever date you happen to choose, with local temperatures soaring into the 102 -105 degree F range, anytime this week calls for a large, cold glass of freshly made lemonade to “cool down” and relax.
