Many decade-old cars can look and feel perfectly fresh and modern, until you interact with their infotainment systems. Nothing dates an otherwise decent vehicle like infotainment, such is the rate at which these technologies advance. Porsche understands this, which is why the Porsche Classic Communication Management Plus (PCCM Plus) system has been expanded as a retrofit option for a wider range of older 911, Boxster, and Cayman models. The offering brings these sports cars—some as old as the 2009 model year—thoroughly up to date with current connectivity features.
PCCM Plus Availability Expands

Porsche says the PCCM Plus system has been one of its most popular retrofit options. The upgrade brings the latest connectivity and navigation functions into older Porsche models while seamlessly blending in with their existing cabin layouts. Owners of the following Porsche models can now have the upgrade done at Porsche Centers around the world:
- 987.2 (Boxster and Cayman)
- 997.2 (911)
- 981 (Boxster and Cayman)
- 991.1 (911)
The models above span the 2009 to 2016 model years. Back then, features like wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto were not common, but they can now be integrated. PCCM Plus also adds over-the-air updates, YouTube video playback, navigation with satellite imagery, a nano SIM card slot with 4G support, and HD Radio.Â
These features are displayed on the crisp seven-inch touchscreen, but owners will also be able to control certain functions via buttons on the steering wheel. The upgraded system continues to support personal vehicle settings, and a welcome visual touch is the ability to select an exterior color for the virtual vehicle on the touchscreen. This can match the owner’s vehicle color, providing a system that feels completely OEM. Additionally, Boxster and Cayman models with the infotainment upgrade will get a visual display of the vehicle in relation to other objects, which supports the existing parking sensors.
The PCCM Plus upgrade is now available for over 300,000 of these older Porsche models.
The Upgrades Only Go So Far

PCCM Plus can make a 10-year-old Porsche feel much more in tune with modern connectivity standards, and as this is an original Porsche product, it bypasses the often shoddy, aftermarket appearance of infotainment upgrades in older cars. Still, the hardware remains a few steps behind the latest Porsche models.Â
Take the latest Porsche Cayenne Electric, for instance, which boasts the brand’s most advanced UI. It features Porsche’s new Flow Display, a center curved OLED screen that creates a physical separation between touchscreen controls. There’s also an optional 14.9-inch passenger-side display, Mood Modes (prioritizing either relaxation or revitalization), customizable widgets, and advanced gaming options. Some of these features are gimmicky, while others are genuinely useful.
Some Porsche fans would argue that Porsche’s older infotainment system was ideal. There was a smaller touchscreen and more emphasis on the driver’s cockpit. The tech had not yet dominated the driving experience, as should be the case in a Porsche.

How Much Is PCCM Plus?

While Porsche did not indicate pricing for the latest PCCM Plus system, it was previously listed for around $1,500. We also found a PCCM Plus system from a Florida parts store for $1,475, but that excludes the recommended installation at a Porsche dealer. Pricing may differ by model, so we recommend contacting your nearest Porsche Center for more information.
While it’s not the cheapest option, the PCCM Plus upgrade addresses one of the few pain points owners of older models are likely to have. Besides, Porsche has long been known for its hefty option and accessory costs. This has not deterred the average Porsche enthusiast, who typically has the budget to afford options that would be standard on much cheaper cars.
