From monogrammed keys to your initials carved into various parts of the interior, the Porsche Configurator has some pretty silly (and silly expensive) options. As of this month, there’s a new winner: carbon fiber wiper arms. The arms claim to reduce weight, both on the car and in your wallet, in addition to adding some more aerodynamic and performative benefits to your dream Porsche.
Lightweight, Heavy On The Wallet
Porsche
Porsche added the option to its configurator sometime this month, but it was only while checking other pricing options that we discovered the addition to the 911 lineup. The wiper arms appear to be available regardless of trim or body style and will run you a cool $1,310.
There is one exception: you’ll have to forgo the lightweight option on your GT3 RS, perhaps due to the model’s more unique body structure.
Porsche says the new wiper arms (option code 9PC for all you real nerds) are “aerodynamically optimized” and “lightweight.” They also offer a 50% reduction in weight over the wiper arms used by the proletariat.
Similarly-Priced Options That Matter On The 911
Porsche
It’s an almost wholly intangible benefit. You’d be better served placing your $1,300 or so on just about anything else. To make that point, we went and did what most people with desk jobs do: farted around on the Porsche configurator for way, way too long. There’s a few more worthy options on the list for around the same money. This includes Porsche’s smattering of “Dreams” paint colors ($1,550, also pictured), ventilated seats ($870), Sport Design side skirts ($1,340), a whole damn sunroof ($1,610), colored seat belts ($560), and about a million other choices. Your money may not go far at Porsche, but at a minimum, you can spend it more wisely than on silly carbon wiper arms.
