Times are tough, but the 2027 Subaru Solterra isn’t adding to the grief, maintaining its $38,495 base MSRP for the new model year, despite numerous updates being carried out for the 2026 model year. Because of those updates, there’s pretty much nothing new to talk about. As before, you can select from Premium, Limited, Limited XT, and Touring XT trims, with the XT models boasting an upgraded dual-motor powertrain good for 338 horsepower, 323 lb-ft of torque, and a 0-60 mph time of under five seconds. These figures make the Solterra the quickest production Subaru to date, and when you deplete the 74.7-kWh lithium-ion battery (with 288 miles of range in base form and 278 miles in XT guise) you can recharge at a Supercharger station thanks to a native NACS charging port.
2027 Subaru Solterra EV Offers Strong Value and Choice
At under $40k, the Solterra is vastly more affordable than the average new car sold in America, which costs around $50,000, but with that low price comes less power than in the XT trims. You still get a dual-motor AWD setup in the Premium and Limited models, with downhill assist and grip control from the X-Mode traction systems, but these lesser trims only make 233 hp. Other notable highlights for the EV include a 14-inch Subaru Multimedia touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, regardless of trim, and Subaru’s EyeSight driver aids, which include emergency steering assist, collision avoidance assist with automatic steering, front cross-traffic alert, pre-collision braking, lane departure warning and prevention, dynamic radar cruise control, and emergency stop assist.

There’s also the DiverFocus attention alert system, 18-inch alloys with aerodynamic wheel covers, a power liftgate, heated front seats, dual-zone automatic climate control, and rear seats that fold in a 60/40 split to provide up to 63.5 cubic feet of storage. On the base Premium model, Subaru has also thrown in water-resistant StarTex upholstery in black, encouraging you to test the AWD system off-road. As for colors, the 2027 Solterra offers the following choices:

For those wanting a more special exterior appearance, the Touring XT trim offers the choice of Midnight Tide Mica, Cosmic White Pearl, Harbor Mist Gray Pearl, and Smoked Carbon in two-tone finishes.
How the 2027 Subaru Solterra Compares
The Subaru Solterra is nearly identical to the Toyota bZ, and Toyota has yet to reveal pricing for the 2027 model year, but unfortunately for Subaru, it will need Toyota to radically increase MSRPs if it’s to look like the better deal, as the 2026 bZ starts at $34,900. That’s a difference of $3,595, but there’s an important caveat. While a base Solterra delivers up to 288 miles of range, the base Toyota bZ only manages 236 miles. It wins on the other end of the scale, however, where the Solterra XT promises 278 miles of range and the bZ Limited manages 299 miles. We’ll have to wait for the 2027 Toyota bZ’s figures to be revealed before we can cast a verdict, but regardless, it’s nice to see that the Solterra is no costlier than last year.
