Erich Bitter wasn’t feeling the least bit acerbic when he launched his first production car in the 1970s. In fact, life had been good for him throughout his career as a professional racing driver, where he competed in endurance racing and touring car championships before successfully turning his hand to business. Bitter’s latest brainwave involved the creation of his own grand tourer, and he felt that he could create something with Opel-like German dependability and Italianesque design, to compete with the best. However, reality intervened as it invariably does, and his Bitter SC never hit the big time. This is the story of a now rare and collectible classic car that’s beginning to build its own fan club.
