One of the things that the United States is best known for in the automotive world is engines, specifically big ones. For decades, the US was dutifully involved in the production of large-displacement V8s. Back then, the common adage was “there’s no replacement for displacement”. This was largely true back when the phrase was coined, as things like forced induction, variable valve timing, and other modern motor tech simply hadn’t been invented, or used in a widespread manner yet.
