The SUV body style is difficult for any automaker to ignore, and that includes brands that have built their identities around unconventional designs. Polestar is the latest to adapt, turning its 4 electric coupé into a more practical SUV variant. The new model gets a straighter roofline, more cargo space and greater versatility, while retaining the original 4’s performance-focused character.
The Polestar 4 SUV joins the existing 4 electric coupé rather than replacing it. The two share the same basic architecture, while the new SUV has a redesigned rear section to create more room and utility.
A Straighter Roofline And A More Usable Rear
The biggest visual change is at the back. The Polestar 4 SUV gets a straighter roofline and more upright tailgate, while full-length roof rails increase its dynamic roof load capacity to 100 kg. That extra height is most apparent from the second row, where rear headroom increases by 2.5 centimeters. The SUV also gets a large panoramic glass roof that stretches all the way to the tailgate. An optional electrochromic version can be electrically dimmed to reduce glare.

Cargo capacity rises to 530 liters behind the rear seats when measured to the seatbacks, or 655 liters when measured to the inner roof. Folding the 60:40-split rear seatbacks increases luggage capacity to 1,665 liters, while total storage across the front and rear luggage compartments reaches 1,680 liters.

The rear window is another major difference. The original 4 electric coupé uses a camera-based digital rear-view mirror in place of a conventional rear window. The new SUV has a conventional rear window and rear-view mirror as standard, although the digital mirror remains available as an option.
It Still Has A 544 HP Option
Polestar is offering the SUV with two electric powertrains, with a 100 kWh battery pack shared between both. While the single-motor rear-wheel drive version develops 272 HP and 343 Nm, the dual-motor all-wheel drive setup makes 544 HP and 686 Nm. The former comes with a WLTP-claimed range of up to 630 km, while that for the latter stands at up to 600 km. Both the versions can be juiced up with DC charging at up to 200 kW and AC charging at up to 22 kW in selected markets.
A Performance pack is available for buyers who want more focused driving hardware. It adds recalibrated active dampers from ZF, Brembo brakes with Swedish gold-colored calipers and 22-inch wheels with Pirelli P Zero performance tires.
The New SUV Adds More Than Just Cargo Space

Polestar
Polestar has given the SUV a feature that fits its more adventure-oriented character: Camping mode. When parked, it can maintain a climate-controlled cabin while allowing occupants to access entertainment, lighting and vehicle controls from the front and rear displays. USB-C ports, a 12V outlet and V2L capability add further utility.
V2L allows the battery to supply AC power to external equipment at up to 3.3 kW through a separate certified adapter. It is useful for powering camping equipment, tools or electronics, but it is not exclusive to the SUV; Polestar says the feature is coming to all Polestar 4 vehicles through a future software update.
Another interesting detail is the availability of Google’s newest Gemini AI assistant. It replaces traditional command-based voice control with more conversational interactions, allowing the system to understand context and handle multi-turn requests. Gemini Live can also assist with tasks such as trip planning, brainstorming and real-time translation.
There Are Clouds Looming Over Its U.S. Availability
The new Polestar 4 SUV is launching internationally, with production already underway in Busan, South Korea, and first customer deliveries planned for the fourth quarter of 2026. However, Polestar has not announced U.S. availability for this new SUV variant.

Polestar
That distinction matters because Polestar’s U.S. operations are currently in transition. The company’s U.S. site says existing vehicle inventory will continue to be sold while supplies last, but that no new vehicle will be available for sale as model year 2027 and subsequent. The company says it will continue supporting existing U.S. customers. So while the Polestar 4 SUV is a new global addition to the lineup, there is currently no official confirmation that American buyers will get it.
Prices Begin From $67,200
For those looking at the rear-wheel drive version of the new Polestar 4 SUV, expect it to set you back by $67,200. The dual-motor all-wheel drive version, on the other hand, costs $76,500. The Performance Pack version starts at $88,500 in Germany, with all three figures representing German base prices including VAT and excluding handover fees.

Polestar
Production began in the second quarter of 2026, and the first deliveries are expected in the fourth quarter. For Polestar, the SUV represents an attempt to make one of its more distinctive models considerably easier to live with without abandoning the performance and design focus that defined the original 4.
