The secret things belong to the LORD our God, but the things revealed belong to us and to our children forever, that we may follow all the words of this law.
Deuteronomy 29:29 NIV
This verse divides knowledge into two realms. There is some knowledge that God has reserved for Himself, the secret things that belong to the Lord. And there are other things that He has revealed to us.
What are these secret things that belong to the Lord? In the context of this passage, it refers to how God is, and will be, working in the life of Israel to accomplish His purpose. Why He has invested so much in a people He knows will rebel and face destruction as a nation. And that applies to His working in the international arena today. Scripture reveals to us that God is sovereign over the affairs of nations. But it is hard for me to understand how He uses the conflicts between nations to accomplish His purpose. I simply have to trust Him with those secret things and so many others.
While I am intrigued by the secret things of God, it is more important for me to invest my efforts in knowing and understanding what He has revealed in His word. He has given me what I need in order to know and follow Him (2 Tim. 3:16-17). And I am responsible for what I do with that. To walk in loving obedience to my Lord and Savior. To seek and follow His will in my life. And to become all He wants me to be.
