BMW never sold a pickup version of the M3 or M4, though the company did build a handful of one-offs for its own amusement. So a determined builder in California grabbed the newest G82 and did the job himself. Nearly four years after the conversion wrapped, the one-off crossed Bring A Trailer’s digital block and sold for $93,000. That’s serious money for something BMW never signed off on.
In fact, that figure clears the sticker on a brand-new 2026 M4 Competition xDrive Coupe, which lists at $91,700. The regular M4 opens at $82,200 and the Competition asks $86,600, so the truck outran every version of the car it started life as. Per the listing on Bring a Trailer, it shows 8,000 miles (12,875 km) on the odometer and looks to be in excellent shape.

The project first broke cover at the 2022 SEMA show, where it caught the eye of BMW fans. California builder DinMann drew inspiration from the 1986 BMW E30 M3 Ute prototype and the drop-top E92 M3 Pickup dreamed up as an April Fool’s gag in 2011. To pull it off, he bought a new 2022 M4 Competition that left the factory as a Competition xDrive coupe, for the express purpose of cutting it apart.

The build came together in a frantic six weeks ahead of that SEMA debut. Since then, the truck has ditched its bright metallic blue wrap to reveal a Brooklyn Gray Metallic finish underneath. The rear section of the roof is gone, along with the interior trim behind it. To make the thing usable, the team welded in a tubular steel subframe beneath the custom bed, reinforced the C-pillars, and fitted a proper tailgate with a carbon fiber insert.

Beyond the new bodystyle, the M4 Maloo wears a carbon fiber bodykit. The additions run to a sharper splitter, wide fenders with carbon gills, side skirts, a shorter carbon fiber roof, and a rear diffuser framing quad tailpipes.

The BMW M pickup sits on lowering springs and rolls on 19-inch front and 20-inch rear M Performance forged alloys. M Compound brakes with red calipers handle the stopping.
Inside, the shortened cabin has room for two, but retains the carbon bucket seats upholstered in red and black leather and a small portion of the rear bench for cargo. Custom work includes additional carbon fiber inserts on the dashboard, door cards, center console, and steering wheel.

Under the hood lies a twin-turbo 3.0-liter six-cylinder engine, upgraded with new turbochargers, a carbon fiber intake, a new exhaust system and a recalibrated ECU. This means it certainly makes more than the 503 hp (375 kW / 510 PS) of the standard version, sent to all four wheels through an eight-speed automatic, an xDrive AWD system, and a limited-slip differential.

As for the high bidder who landed it at $93,000, the buyer appears to be a Florida exotic car dealership called Carrio Motor Cars. This likely means the M4 Maloo will resurface for sale before long, probably wearing a steeper price tag.
