Beginning in the mid 1990s, the sports sedan really started to take off in popularity, especially at the European car shows. Virtually every European automaker that produced luxury cars had one on its offering list by the late 1990s, with models like the BMW M5, the Audi S6, and the Mercedes-Benz E55 AMG being offered. Every brand was trying to out-gun one another at the same time, and each had its own, unique way of trying to do so.
