If you turn back the clock just a few decades, you’d see a sea of manual transmission-equipped cars and trucks on American roadways. There was a time, if you can believe it, that the manual transmission was the most common transmission in the States, and almost every driver had at least some knowledge of how to operate one. Carmakers you wouldn’t expect to have manual transmissions, such as Buick, even offered them in their base models.
