Many EVs are available now with a healthy amount of range, but charging speed is still an area that automakers are trying to improve. One of the keys to faster charging speeds, is higher-voltage electrical systems. Hyundai, Kia, and Genesis were among the early companies to adopt 800-volt architectures to take advantage of seriously fast charging from 350-kW DC fast charging stations. Now, more and more companies are doing the same, including Volvo. Just one year after launching its new full-size electric SUV, the EX90, the company has completely replaced the SUV’s existing 400-volt electrical system with an 800-volt one. Not only that, but Volvo also added a number of other attractive features, some of which can even be added to a 2025 example, in case you already have one.
