The letter M is renowned in BMW circles. It stands for Motorsport. And M is the division of the company that builds the ultimate “ultimate driving machines.” Far more revered and sparingly used within the BMW lineage are the letters CSL. CSL stands for “Coupé Sport Leichtbau.” Leichtbau means “lightweight construction” in German. The first usage was the 1973 BMW 3.0 CSL, the European Touring Car champion “Batmobile.”
