The mid 1990s was an interesting time for the car world. The automotive market we are familiar with today was beginning to take shape, as crossovers (like the recently launched Toyota RAV4) and family-oriented SUVs began their rapid rise to the top. That does not mean, however, that interest in smaller and sportier cars was dwindling; the first generation of the hugely popular Mazda Miata was coming to an end, soon to be replaced by the second-gen model just a year later.
