Downsizing is nothing new. In fact, it’s been a continuing trend of the 2010s, and while in some circles the effects of it seem to be reversing themselves – see Ram reintroducing the Hemi V8 – the evidence is still there to be seen in many mainstream automakers’ product lines. Ford’s range of EcoBoost engines, GM swapped out naturally aspirated six- and eight-cylinder engines for boosted ‘three’s and ‘fours,’ plus Stellantis’ Hurricane inline-six mostly did away with Hemi lumps.
