Mercedes-Benz has just obtained a patent for the new V8 engine that will power its highest-performance models like the Mercedes-AMG GT 63 successor starting very soon. Usually a patent means a new development in horsepower or efficiency, but this time Mercedes-Benz is all about noise. The patent covers methods that Benz can use to “realize a particularly advantageous noise behavior.” In other words, it’s a patent for an engine that is meant to sound awesome. After all, what’s the point of having a V8 if it doesn’t even sound like one?
