By the end of the 2000s, Saab’s future was hanging by a thread. The Great Recession had been brutal for its parent company, GM, and saw the world’s once-largest company file for bankruptcy. This left Saab hanging in the balance, yet the company wasn’t ready to go down without a fight, and in a last-ditch effort, revealed perhaps its most compelling model to date: the 9-4X.
