When you think of hot hatchbacks, certain marques immediately come to mind. There’s Volkswagen with the Golf GTI and Golf R, Honda, of course, has the Civic Type R, and in recent years, Toyota launched the GR Corolla. In years past, Ford had the Focus RS, Mazda had the Mazdaspeed3, and Hyundai had the Veloster N. One automaker that seldom comes to mind with that prompting is Volvo, and that is an undeserved oversight.
