First carved in 1941 under the direction of sculptor Gutzon Borglum, Mount Rushmore has become a shorthand not just for a “top four,” but for four cornerstones in a given category. When we list our “Mount Rushmore” of great car movies or engines, we’re saying that not only are these some of the best to ever do it, they’re also so influential that it’s difficult to imagine the world we’d live in without them.
